WARNING! THIS IS A RANT! WORSE THIS IS A POLITICAL RANT FROM A COMMIE LIBERAL NAZI HIPPIE TERRORIST!

All of our Jobs are going overseas to China!
Buy American!
Invest in our manufacturers!
Pay companies to keep jobs at home!

...

Politicians in American, and Europe are fighting to keep jobs at home buy giving manufacturers multibillion stimulus packages, and paying companies not to outsource their labor to developing nations. Now what's wrong with that? Well, quite a bit actually, and spoiler alert both the Liberals and the Conservatives are wrong on this one.

You see the outsourcing of jobs to Countries with looser labor laws, is part of the free market that conservatives love so much, but those jobs, despite what people many think with recent labor riots in China, are never coming back. The stimulus package that the left championed and has so far only kept a few manufacturers from bleeding employees like a civ, that will do NOTHING to creating long term jobs in America. What it will do, and this isn't a bad thing, is provoke domestic manufacturers to build more automated facilities, and improve existing ones to produce more efficiently and with greater detail. This will increase the quality of products and the competitiveness of American businesses, but it will create only a few jobs, and too a group of people that are typically not the idealized American every-man/woman: Engineers, Designers, Technicians, and Scientists.

The geeks that the American Every-man, picked on and tormented all through high school; they are the ones who are really going to benefit from the stimulus over the long haul, because we no longer need menial labor to the same extent that we did during the New Deal, machines can do it better, cheaper, and faster. Geeks have already pretty much taken over the world during the DotCom boom, and now we will complete that conquest with the complete and total take-over of the Manufacturing industry.

Even if the isn't a second stimulus, it doesn't matter, the trend is a decade's long process that is far beyond stopping, and it will only benefit those who studied to be the thinkers and tinkerers of tomorrow. 10% unemployment will stick around in America until the last of the Boomers who are either unwilling to adapt to the new circumstances or simply unable, die off. The American Average Joe/Jane, will not be the manufacturer, or the farmer in 50 years, they will be the Engineers, the researchers, and the designers. The blue collar world is coming to an end; and civilization will be better for it.
In case you haven't realized it, I'm an Engineer. :D

I didn't directly mention artists, because I thought designers was clear enough. This is the reality of our time, and I couldn't be happier for it.

Of course it is. It's their property and the right to property is the right to use and disposal; there is absolutely nothing requiring them to keep their business in America.

Of course, the simple solution that seems to evade the people whining about it is to change the oppressive laws in America that encourage such things.

What I'm getting at is that conservatives bash outsourcing one minute, and then hail the free market the next. Even if we reduced our business taxes to reasonable levels (something I think that is long overdue) it wouldn't matter, outsourcing would persist until they choose to modernize (depending on market conditions). Simple fact is that Americans will never work for as little as Chinese political prisoners, and Indian child laborers.

"Simple fact is that Americans will never work for as little as Chinese political prisoners, and Indian child laborers."

Chinese and Indians deserve jobs too. And what's driving them out isn't that Americans demand more, it's the fact that in America, business owners are routinely forced to pay their workers far more than their worth (you'll notice the countries they go to don't have minimum wage laws).

So? The point is that even if we handed big business their libertarian/anarcho-capitalist wet dream, it wouldn't stop them from modernizing. Blue collar jobs will continue to go away and unemployment will remain high for years to come. Capitalism doesn't solve everything, but it can be used to explain long term trends.

I suggest you read "The Divine Right of Stagnation" because it directly covers that alleged fear. In any case, there is no right to be stagnant in life, especially not at someone else's expense; if a worker finds his skills are no longer in demand or aren't good enough, the burden is on him/her to improve them, not on the business owner to retard expanding his business because some of his workers don't feel like improving their skills.

I agree that the burden is on them, what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter if you deregulate business standards or not, shot of government make-work jobs, there is nothing anyone can do to stop this trend.

And I don't read Libertarian porn.
