Obama 2012 by YNot1989 Obama 2012 by YNot1989
Yes I was, and continue to be an Obama supporter. I do not agree with everything this administration has done, I thought that the Affordable Care Act didn't go far enough, that the President's support of No Child Left Behind is idiotic, that the refusal to end the Embargo against Cuba is neolithic, and his desire to not raise taxes on the rich borders on the insane... if I did not understand that the Conservative movement in this country has gone so batshit insane that getting anything beyond the most meager of legislation through is virtually impossible (Obamacare is identical to Romneycare for Christ sake).

I'm also a student and as most of you know this recession has hit us the hardest and the Affordable Care act and the new FAFSA rates really saved my skin. My dad was also diagnosed with diabetes last year and got his hand caught in a table router a few months back and I'm confident that he would have lost his fingers if the new legislation hadn't regulated pre-existing conditions.

The tax cuts for the middle class have also made it easier on my family with me and my sister in college and my dad starting a small business after the company he worked for during the last fifteen years went under.

In short, re-elect President Obama because even with all that he's been unable to do because of Tea Party Fanaticism, he's still done enough for me and my family to still do well during this recession.

To GeneralTate, who was too much of a pussy to let me rebut him: I could rebut the shitty economy line, but instead I'll just address the "America's tired," line. They're not. They couldn't give less of a fuck about the NSA spying scandal. Oh, I know deviantArt and reddit would have you believe otherwise, but hear's the truth the internet needs to come to terms with right now: You are a tiny, insignificant minority in terms of buying power, voting power, and therefore political power. The majority of this country's citizens are struggling, but ultimately content. They are well fed, entertained, and free to do as they like with only minor inconveniences as their greatest obstacle. They aren't tired, and they have no desire to do anything about the current situation of the executive branch.

True, President Obama has fallen short, but the GOP is so under the control of fanatic anti-taxers and RabiFundie Christian Theotyrants that no possible cantidate they could field for the forseeable future could do anything but turn America into a neo-feudal Christian version of Saudi Arabia.

Not to mention the fact that the only President I could ever agree with 100% would be me:-)

 It's nice to hear someone that isn't afraid to defend OUR PRESIDENT! Sure, not a lot of things have gone well, but there have been tons of positive things, like you just mentioned. Job market is slowly returning, economy is on the up and up, not to mention a lot of environmental---ah, I will spare you the rant xD Kudos to you, and thanks, for not being afraid of backlash from the conservative tea party....."people". Hatred does have a louder voice than kindness, sad to say, and fear is the fuel of hatred, so don't be discouraged! You have, at least, four people in Minnesota standing by your side in your support of the president!

Even though he was handed the Presidency during Americas most harsh times, he did a lot to try an improve things. Sadly, congress has made it clear they don't like him
lol if GOP can have its 8 years, then Dems should get theirs.

His change in strategy in Afghanistan led to the death of Osama bin Laden and most of the Al Quaeda leadership, his actions in Libya have yield unimpeachable results with no US servicemen on the ground (outside of CIA advisors but they've been there since the 70s.) His economic policies kept the financial sector from completely collapsing and thereby staved off a worldwide depression, and the condition of the American auto industry today speaks volumes to the merits of the auto bailout. The education system still sucks, but as a college student I appreciate what he did with FAFSA; and as for healthcare, my diabetic dad who just started a small business would've lost his fingers to a shaper this year if not for the President's efforts on health care reform, and I very much appreciate being able to stay on my parents' health insurance till I'm 26.

He's far from a perfect leader, but he is in my opinion the best man for the job.

What? I registered with Americans Elect on the off chance that he fucks up, and as history teaches us: only a fool puts complete faith in a member of the government.

I voted for a centrist and that is exactly what I got, so unlike the unreasonable members of the left who thought they were getting a new FDR, I have very little to complain about from the present administration, and plenty to be happy about.

Sorry I can't help but be blinded by the glaring light of reality: [link]

Oh, and just so you know, my reason for wanting to raise taxes is not because I believe in welfare programs. Its because I want to rebuild this country's infrastructure that has gone to hell over the last five administrations and invest in our education and science programs so that China actually has to put up a fight to take us down.

In short I think you must really hate America if you don't want to try and save it.

We spend far more than most in Ed. If we had fewer govt employees and less mass transit we could have all new roads & bridges.

I love the USA. I just happen to know that giving more money/control to Liberals will get us more of the same stupid.

no hippies please.

Our mass transit network is almost entirely locally governed in the first place, and while we do spend a lot on Education spending, don't forget that we are the third most populous country on Earth. (We can both agree that education reform is not just a matter of money but also how we educate, but that is a debate for another day)

I'm also in favor of cuts, mostly because most of the programs (social, administrative, etc.) have not adapted to changing demographics, modern economics, etc.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, "normal" people have no say in the debates. The only attention given in media nowadays are from the batshit crazies out there -how else can they improve their ratings? I mean, if you had to tell the truth and listen to logic for an hour a day it simply wouldn't sell! Meanwhile, corporations are treated like humans with rights, but unlike humans with laws of punishment. Want to learn more about what ails society? Check this out: [link] There are 4 parts that are worth watching. :peace:

And remember, it is very easy to tell people what you don't like, but it is increasingly difficult finding a solution. It is impossible to get complete consensus throughout the country, but we are a democracy that has a constitution that was written to protect the minority from the majority. Why then are we -as a society- in place/state we are in right now? To answer this is nearly taboo. Yes my friend, we truly are living in a "Matrix" and the sheep happily agree to follow the norms posited by the elite. And no, I'm not a conspiracy fruitcake. I'm just pointing out that there are a lot of problems with our society that should be easily solvable but never seem to get the momentum of the media or our elected leaders.

Also, I would be remiss in saying that the idea of raising one billion dollars for a re-election campaign is completely sickening and bothers me to my very core. I will vote to re-elect Obama, but the idea that he is any better than any other politician is, prima facia, ridiculous. Unfortunately, this false choice (look up "Morton's fork") is artificially reinforced to voters by both parties. I do believe that most of the electorate is progressive by nature even though the term "liberal" has become a dirty word that most of us don't want to be associated with and thus it sounds better if we ascribe to "conservative". (And for historical significance, conservatives use to call themselves progressive.) The point is that D's vs R's are pointless. They both derive their power and significance from the corporation(s) of America. I believe that we've become a plutocracy and the rest of the world's population just points at us and laughs from behind the curtain. Of course behind the curtain since we have a military presence in 2/3 of the world. God, don't get me started...

If the a "double-dip" does occur, it will probably happen before the election and he'll lose anyway, if job growth continues at its current rate a double dip will be unlikely during his second term.
