Mars Political Map by YNot1989 Mars Political Map by YNot1989
This is for my Second Renaissance timeline that I have been working on for a while now. The basic premise behind this map being that by 2050 humanity had made Mars largely habitable and the great superpowers of Earth began to settle and divide up the planet. The territories are inspired by existing geographic locations, unmanned landing sites and my own ideas.

The Outer Colonies

The Inner Colonies

Future Old Glory

This was a previous incarnation of the Second Renaissance, so its no longer cannon, but there is no Russia by this point in history. In this version of the TL, climate change literally splits Sibera and European Russia apart, and the European Russians end up joining the EU, and yes I realize that sounds kinda stupid now.

Was going to post that you had forgotten Mexico, Korea, Turkey, Canada and Australia, but then checked out the Second Renaissance maps and it mostly made sense.

Why does Africa have a colony, though, but not Turkestan? Surely if the Baikonur Cosmodrome is anything to go by Turkestan ought to be among the more established of the space powers? The same argument could be applied to the Oceanic Union, whose economies are more advanced than the African ones.
And, referring back to the first paragraph of this post, if Mexico and Korea have been assimilated by the US and China respectively shouldn't there be more representation of them in the placenames of their ruling dynasties? Like - say, for instance - Tenochtitlan II as part of Jefferson. The British and French may likewise not be too impressed with their omission from the European regions.

Holy shit, someone who actually bothered to check the rest of my timeline before commenting about my scenarios.

As for your query I plan on making an updated map that should resolve these issues.

These colonies weren't established by government sponsored space programs. A single private firm was contracted to set up these colonies, this is the same organization that terraformed the planet.

I really doubt Africa would be able to launch a rocket to Mars, even in 2050.

No Problem, you're becoming one of the most dynamic economies in the EU, I figured a Polish colony would make sense.

Check out my Second Renaissance Page, everything in there is related to this map. Long Story Short Russia was absorbed by the European Federal Union in the 2020s.

Of all the terraformed Mars projects I've done, the best land has always been where you have the US and Chinese parts, and NE India. Everything else is pretty much frozen wasteland, especially Olympus. Only thing valuable there would be a prime location for a space elevator on Pavonis Mons.

Africa is thousands years behind the rest of the World. Tribal wars, poor ethics, poor work ethics... I don't believe they catch up before 2200.

I wouldn't say thousands, they only fight with 50 year old Kaleshnikovs these days. But don't sell Africa short on space tech, there is potential.

Cultural development is more important than technology. If you give technology to someone with poor ethics, it will only make his victims more numerous. It will take a few generations to get over these tribal states, don't you think?

Hm... depends. Culture is a byproduct of economic circumstance, and that may be changing with Chinese investments in the East. As China pumps money into these economies via building rail-lines, roads, and other infrastructure (all for their own desire to access untapped African resources) that translates of more commerce across Africa which in turn leads to economic development. As their economy improves, violence will go down. Kind of a round about way from the prospect of colonizing Mars though :)

"African Mars", "South American Mars"? I think a greater accomplishment is that these regions were able to hang together well enough to establish united colonies :P
