Mars Commonwealth

The American Martian States were the first territories on another world to be recognized as the sovereign and incorporated territory of another nation. In 2073 the individual states were consolidated into the first U.S. Commonwealth after Earth, and since that time have enjoyed a stable and prosperous history.

Viking, the first Martian State, was officially recognized shortly after Mars was terraformed in the 2050s, and the last state Westylvania, achieved statehood shortly after Commonwealth status was recognized. Mars is fairly underpopulated by comparison to Earth, however population density is almost the same, as such most of the humans on Mars have concentrated into large metroplexes on the coasts.
