Mars Commonwealth by YNot1989 Mars Commonwealth by YNot1989
The United States was one of the first nations to contract colonial development of Mars, and was one of only two nations to already have territory claims prior to colonization with the regions explored by decades worth of robotic probes.

In 2039 the US became the first human nation to recognize an off-Earth colony as an equal state in the Union with the admission of Viking from the old Tharsis territory. By 2054 with the admission of Absaroka into the union every American territory on Mars had been admitted as a state. In 2072 with the creation of the Four-Tier Republic system Mars became the second Commonwealth (after Earth) to be consolidated.

This is part of a series I'll be doing showing the sub-divisions and some of the history of Mars in my Second Renaissance scenario.

Because Wikia style maps only have two phases water and land, if we did a map of Mars as it is, it would be almost impossible to come up with any natural land borders. This is just easier.

im not trying to be smug

When I think of mars i think about the martian tales of edgar rice burroughs, in these books various martian races battled for control of a dying world.

The races with the most political power tended to be identifiable by a color, black, white, yellow, red, and green

That is the mars that I grew up with and love.

And it is also the mars that has not had a map made of it in over fiteen years to my knowledge

Don't take this the wrong way but those books are way before my time, and for me sci-fi doesn't get interesting until the 70s, and even then for space operas we've only just started to get it right (2001 not withstanding)

hehehe

I think you would be pleasantly surprised

Edgar Rice Burroughs was very much ahead of his peers.

Tell me what do you like the most in science fiction what are a few of your favorite novels (i have read and enjoyed something from every type of science fiction)

Edgar Rice Burroughs is the father of MODERN science fiction, big heroes, big action, and ridiculous science in the proper proportions.

He created the idea of not taking the genre so seriously that it hurts the work.

It is very much like farscape, star wars, halo, and stargate. And i feel it would fit in properly in the modern day.
