A friend of mine is currently working on a book and requested that I create this map for him to visualize the political scenario of the world. This is a refined version of a previous map.
From what little he has told me in 1930 President Hoover basically snaps and gasses several Hoovervilles across the country that are rioting over his policies. What follows is the break-up of the country and a civil war over disputed territories. The war ends sometime in the mid 30s with a peace declared under President Roosevelt, however many areas are still contested. Mexico has since annexed portions of the South-West and most of Texas.
Don't ask me about the political situation in most of these new countries, I honestly don't know much more than I just told you; though I will say, Yes, Deseret is a Mormon Theocracy, the CSA is an Apartheid state, and Mississippi was formed by a group of African-American Revolutionaries. That's all I know, and all you'll know until the book comes out.

I'd say give the Disputed Territories to Texas and maybe include Louisiana in that while you're at it. It'd probably make things more interesting for there to be a Greater Texas for the CSA and the USA to deal with. Also give the disputed territory between Cascadia, the USA, and the Lakotah Confederacy to Canada, I'd like to see a Greater Canada.
Are any of the Fractured States allied with the Asian and European powers? I keep thinking that California and Cascadia are under either the Japanese Empire's sphere of influence or the Mexican Empire.
