Description

While on the other side of the Atlantic, Mexico and America grappled for control of their continent, in Europe the alliances and old hatreds rumbled with anticipation. American forces in France and Germany were poised to return to fight for the Homeland with reinforcements from their British states. Poland, seeing an opportunity to secure its future and reinvigorate its decaying confederacy with Eastern Europe, was quick to reach out to Mexico through their Latin Union puppets. In a secret meeting in Athens on January 9, 2136, Mexico and Poland agreed to ally against the US, with Mexico guaranteeing Polish dominance over Northern Europe, and Poland agreeing to engage the US directly to limit any movement of potential American forces. On January 25, 2136, Poland invaded through Brandenburg into Hanover and from Bavaria into Rhineland, while Latin Union forces invaded from Occitania into France and Burgundy. With the initial invasion overwhelming US forces that had already begun pulling out for a return to America, an Allied front to stop the advance of the Poles and the Latins was only established after Poland had invaded as far west as the Hague. With war in Europe threatening the American states of the British Isles, any attempt to help the homeland was abandoned in the face of a war that now consumed the planet.

After consolidating their gains in Germany and the Low Countries, Poland prepared to take Paris and with it the whole of France. With their forces on the continent exhausted from the German campaigns, the US engineered a joint Itallian-Venitian invasion into Austria and Sicily, while coordinating a Turkish invasion into Bulgaria on February 21st, 2136. The two invasions forced the Poles to stay their hand in France and send aide to their allies, fearing the Intermarium would crumble. The Polish-Intermarium forces were slow to force the US-Allied invasion back into Venice, while US Naval forces supported the invasion in the Balkans, keeping the Poles bogged down in Southern Europe. Russian naval forces in the Black Sea gave the Intermarium a major victory at the Battle of Istanbul, but by then the US-Allied forces had replenished their ranks in France, and held the Polish-Mexican forces at bay. Mexican supported forces in Southern France were too pre-occupied with an uprising in the Basque country to redirect their coalition to aide Sicily, leaving Mexican orbitals to provide what little support they could spare from the American front to bombard Allied forces in Italy.

Meanwhile, Latin Union naval forces advanced into North Africa, hoping to secure a steady rout to the Uganda Tower and with it, supplies from their Orbitals. American-Allied forces in Algeria staged a daring advance to meet the invading forces in Tessala, while a US Naval Strike Group stayed to defend the city from a Mexican drone fleet. In Africa the US saw far more success than in Europe, with allied victories turning the Saharan states away from their alliance of convenience with Mexico. Several Brazilian units in West Africa even declared for the US-Alliance rather than continue to serve the Mexican Puppet government in Brasilia. Despite these victories, they did little to aide French and German forces in retaking their territory, and the conflict reached a stalemate by August.
