2020: The Second Renaissance by YNot1989 2020: The Second Renaissance by YNot1989
2013: The world faces arguably its greatest crisis. The Flood, a great rising of the seas brought on by a perfect storm of human created greenhouse gasses, naturally occurring cycles in the Earth's climate, and a freak accident that unleashed billions of tons of natural gas into the atmosphere from beneath the now gone Siberian permafrost.

2015: As sea levels continue to rise unabated, billions are driven from their homes and left without food or clean water. Extreme weather patterns result in record low crop yields around the planet, and the desalination of the ocean kills the vast majority of the world's salt water fish, leaving the oceans barren, and the planet starving. Wars over lack of access to usable resources, land, and food, or simple desperation break out over the next few years.

2016: The United Nations forms the International Flood Relief Organization, and sends peace keepers to try and manage the global refugee crisis where it is at its worst. The United States, Europe and India all begin investing heavily in alternative farming techniques to make up for the deficit of food.

2017: Mariner Space Development captures an asteroid in Earth-Luna Orbit. Regular flights yield billions in resources. Mariner begins investing heavily into several humanitarian projects.

2018: The Russian civli war comes to an end, Russia formally dissolves into the Republic of Moscova and the Siberian Socialist Republic.

2019: The Chinese civil war comes to an end, along with the Cartel War, but conflict between the US and Gran Columbia continues in Central America.

2020: Mariner establishes Generation Enterprises as the primary holder of their revenue from off-earth mining operations. The organization funds trillions in R&D and humanitarian projects. Africa receives trillions from Generation for infrastructure development. Private Military Contractors are sent in to protect the various projects. With gene sequencing so inexpensive that most sinks have them installed, the Jaques Cousteau Foundation begins sending out Sequencing Probes throughout the world's oceans to identify the genetic code of every sea creature, dead or alive. This raises hope for rebuilding the desalinated oceans.

Climate change goes WAY out of control, millions of American refugees in the Gulf head south into Mexico (I know, makes no sense given how sparsly populated the US is), this results in extraterrritorial refuge camps that Mexico can't handle, the government collapses, Narco state ensues, refugees threatened, US invades, and annexes.

Global warming cannot occur over several years, melting permafrost will raise global temperatures (by just a few centigrade), but that doesn't mean that the ice caps will melt over a timeframe of a few decades, let alone a few years.

Major US cities (New York, Washington DC, Boston) are fucked.
Major Canadian cities (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal) are good!
We are neutral and safe!

very well done map!
I'd just have one question. In this map, how high did the sea level raise up (in meters) compared to now-a-days?

100 meters, though I have since retconned this out of the timeline it is originally from.

100 metres is 300 feet. The melting of the ice caps will raise sea levels by only 216 feet (most estimates).

Me too, year 2020 is going to have more islands in the Pacific than there used to be, Year 2011 map has a trendline(spelling?) to it already on a Japanese map not allowed on American because America is too Right-wing still even on Year 2013 ... also glad China will take what was a Russian island north of Japan, i'm hoping Anime Stations in Japan will be islands East of Japan in the future ... because i am sick of the stereotype thing about Japan and anime in one certain way that has to do with the Earth and that is because Japan makes anime, its the opposite for islands east of Japan or that .... that's why i say fuck California

Shiite Iraq was absorbed by Iran in this TL and they chose the name of the older empire to better manage the transition.

Two things:

1) Excellent map as always. Have you though of doing a map like this but without the original coastlines showing?
2) Have you read Flood by Stephen Baxter? Methinks you may like it.
